On Friday we celebrate National Donut Day! The kids LOVE making their own donuts, and I sure love eating them!!
Did you know that National Donut Day began as a fundraiser for the Salvation Army in 1938? It's held annually on the first Friday of June, in honor of the female volunteers of World War I who served doughnuts to soldiers behind the front lines. Sometimes donutes were cooked in oil inside the metal helmet belonging to one of the soldiers.
